I always enjoy painting space because I am always so fascinated by it. I simply never cease to be spellbound by the sheer size of it. Hundreds of billions of galaxies each containing hundreds of billions of stars. Wow. Or as it says in Douglas Adams' 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy': "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space. "
This painting of the cosmos includes a monolith in the foreground. If you've seen Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' you'll know all about mysterious monoliths (though you may not know exactly what they're supposed to symbolize - I've seen the film many times and I still don't).
